Cover Letter

I am writing to express my interest in continuing my professional Mechanical Engineering career with Tunehouse. I am currently in my 5th year of mechanical engineering and business management at UTS and upon my graduation in the second half of 2027 I will have my degree and my certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. My combination of engineering knowledge, hands on automotive skills and genuine passion for the industry makes Tunehouse the ideal environment that I hopefully envision working at in the foreseeable future.

During my time at Tunehouse, I had the opportunity to apply the engineering skills developed throughout the duration of my studies to real world projects. One of my most significant projects involved the development and testing of the turbo kit for the GR86 platform. Here I contributed and was involved in the design, testing and manufacturing process, something I am very proud of and grateful for. This allowed me to combine CAD & mechanical design skills with practical fabrication and problem solving to create parts that could perform reliably and optimally in a real vehicle. The finished product successfully increased the vehicles power output by 120% and is now a finished product available on the market.

I believe I also demonstrated my ability to solve various complex problems outside of just mechanical systems. An example of this would be me decoding the CAN-bus DATA stream and configuring an external display to log critical engine parameters. This was later used at the racetrack to record and analysis critical vehicle data. This experience strengthened my understanding of electrical systems & computer coding and the importance of data to validate engineering decisions.

My experience of working with the team at Tunehouse also taught me that being a good engineer is more than just your expertise and technical ability. Working with the team showed me just how important teamwork, dependability, meeting deadlines and communicating effectively is. From this I now have a greater understanding and appreciation for the commercial side of engineering, considering things like costs, consumer demand and the actual viability of a commercially available product.

I therefore wish, if possible, to continue with Tunehouse as a mechanical engineer to apply my skills and help take it to the next level. Any business is only as good as its people, and therefore believe I would be a valuable asset to the Tunehouse team.
